Tharstern considers PrintEx preview for integrated W2P product

The vendor trio used an open house in the UK last week to launch a web-to-print production system that can generate, process and route jobs ordered online.

The system sees Red Tie’s online portal capture and submit order information to Tharstern’s MIS, which then calculates both practicality and the cost benefits of bunching orders together. These are then submitted to the production area of the system.

Heidelberg’s Prinect software then handles pre-press, press and finishing functions for set-up and control when required. Production data that includes a cost per copy analysis of each web-to-print job is then returned to the Tharstern MIS.

Tresta Keegan from Tharstern New Zealand said the system may be on show at PrintEx11 in Sydney in May, though added: “As far as demonstrating our products, we still need to confirm what we will show.” She revealed the vendor’s biggest focus would be on a new MIS module that offered “black box estimating”.

The web-to-print system is currently available to local customers through Tharstern.

Liz Gilmour, head of international sales at RedTie, said the system is both robust and easy to use.

She said: “Heidelberg can now fulfil the customer demand for web-to-print solutions and we will oversee the consultation and integration stages.

“Embracing the internet in this way allows printers to generate new business from currently unknown sources, make it even easier for existing customers to place orders, and reduce the overall cost of generating sales.”
