These two standards – for the colour and transparency of offset inks, and critical viewing conditions – are set to join a growing list of Australian ISO standards aimed at improving the quality control benchmark for the print industry. The decision from Standards Australia has been endorsed as a positive move by the LIA and Printing Industries and will bring the total number of local ISO standards to six.
Bill Healey, CEO of Printing Industries Association of Australia says, “The adoption of new standards further reinforces the fact that the Australian industry is committed to ensuring the application of world’s best practice in key areas of the print production process.”
According to the Federal President of the Lithographic Institute of Australia, Bernie Hockings, “The Australian TC 130 Colour Standards Committee is achieving great success in bringing ISO standards to the Australian printing industry. The LIA fully supports such activities as we strive to ensure that the Australian printing industry remains a sustainable and competitive industry”.
Once again Standards Australia has approved the adoption of these two ISO standards based on a recommendation from the local TC 130 committee, and following an extensive process of review that included stakeholder support from leading industry bodies. This continues the TC 130’s aim of introducing standards that are focused on achieving the highest level of print quality control to the Australian Industry.
Australian TC 130 chairman Luke Wooldridge says: “These two new standards are complementary to the existing Australian ISO standards, and our committee is delighted by this decision. It sends a positive sign to print buyers that Australian printers are capable of producing product to the highest possible standards.”
The complete names of the two ISO standards that will be directly adopted by Standards Australia are:
1) ISO 2846-1:2006 Graphic technology – Colour and transparency of printing ink sets for four-colour printing – Part 1: Sheet-fed and heat-set web offset lithographic printing
2) ISO 3664:2009 Graphic technology and photography — Viewing conditions
