Vale: Albert Smith Signs’ Mitchell Smith

Former Albert Smith Signs director Mitchell Smith has passed away, after more than 52 years with the business.

Albert Smith Signs was formed in 1873 (then known as Smith & Sons) in Brisbane by Mitchell’s great-grandfather, Samuel Smith, manufacturing rubber stamps.

In 1973, Mitchell joined the business, sweeping the floors on school holidays and working his way through every facet of the business over the years, both domestically and internationally.

His knowledge of signage, branding, and the signage industry was built by his progression through various departments – design, estimating, manufacturing, sales, and marketing.

When he became director, Mitchell was actively involved in the day-to-day management of the business alongside his brother and managing director Rodney Smith.

Even in his last days, Mitchell was actively involved in the business as mentor to the front-line teams, imparting his broad range of knowledge, skills, and experience to the various departments within the company.

In Albert Smith Signs’ post on LinkedIn announcing Mtichell’s passing, Signright Australia co-owner Kerry-Anne Boyd commented, “My husband [Stephen Boyd] has often spoken about Mitchell over the years and the impact he had on shaping his early career in the industry. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. Rest in peace, Mitchell”.
