Lund was latterly manager of consumables and marketing, Asia Pacific, for the press giant. He had spent much of his working life in the region, including a stint in Australia in the 1990s, establishing the prepress division here for EAC, which represented Heidelberg before the company established its own direct subsidiary here.
Sadly Lund (60) was diagnosed with a brain tumor in December 2008, in fact five days after he returned from his last visit to Melbourne.
Andy Vels Jensen, managing director of Heidelberg ANZ says, “During this visit to Melbourne he was joined by Heidleberg’s CEO for the region, Bent Mortensen. We somehow managed to indulge a bit too much in a common interest; Australian reds! Jorgen’s plan was always to visit Australia regularly in his retirement.”
Lund aimed to retire in Denmark, while enjoying a busy travel schedule visiting kids, grandkids and good friends across the world as well as playing golf with anyone up to it.
Jorgen attended the last drupa in 2008. This was the last time he managed to catch up with everyone in the world of print. Vels Jensen says, “It confirms that there’s always something good to come out of a drupa; spending time with old friends, business contacts and close colleagues is one of them.
“Jorgen also managed to properly farewell Asia Pacific colleagues in June last year when we had a regional management meeting. It was an emotional time as he was already well into his battle.”
Vels Jensen continues, “What a guy! Never a dull moment with Jorgen around. Trying to outwit Jorgen was always a difficult task. His one liners were classic. I’m sure he will continue to entertain at his next port of call.”
Lund passed away surrounded by loved ones. The funeral will take place on Saturday at Jorgen and Birgitte’s local church in Denmark; Ordrup Kirke.
