Vega boosts book production with Heidelberg Stahlfolder

Managing director Peter Gude told ProPrint that since taking delivery of the machine six months ago, it had proved its worth by opening up specialist book work.

“It’s more specialised the capacity than increased it,” he said.

“We had three buckle folders, so we had enough flexible capacity to consider putting in a specialised machine.” Vega replaced one of these three folders with the KH82.

Gude added that the new machine allowed the company to do an A5 book in single 32-page sections, rather than in two sections of 16 pages.

“Being able to put through double the quantity of pages delivers considerable time saving benefits. We do a lot of this type of work and it is a great advantage to be able to produce work so efficiently, and fast,” he said.

The company is currently running the machine at between 10,000-12,000 signatures an hour.

“The speed of this machine is in sync with the press which enables us to realise productivity and efficiency gains,” Gude said.

“When I saw it demonstrated at Drupa, the speed of the machine and the consistency of the output was phenomenal. It impressed me immediately,” he said.

“The KH82 is a highly automated machine and is ideal for the volume of bookwork we have. Any machine that can deliver productivity to your operation has to be considered, particularly in the current economic environment where every saving is counted.”

The company was the first in Australia to achieve ISO-14046.1 certification.
