Vega wins second green gong

Vega was given the Sustainable Business award “for being a leader in running a successful business, whilst reducing their impact on the environment”, according to the City of Monash.

“They have achieved excellent results in waste reduction and increased their recycling rates,” the City of Monash said. “The business has also influenced others, convincing their suppliers to change their practices by questioning their environmental credentials.”

Vega commercial manager Rob Nugent (pictured) told ProPrint that the company had been described as a “standout” in the Monash municipality.

“They said they were particularly attracted to our waste reduction efforts, reducing our carbon footprint with lower energy usage, and our reduction in water usage,” he said.

Nugent said that the company’s recent success in picking up a Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Award was also instrumental in picking up the Monash City gong.

“For us, it’s a reward for all the hard work we’ve put in. It’s a credit to everyone in the team. It’s not just one person, it’s a team effort,” he said.

Nugent said the win also underlined the entire printing industry’s environmental credentials.

“One of the things that myself and our managing director Peter Gude have been trying to tell people is that it’s a credit for the printing industry as a whole,” he said.

“Awards like this show people that we are in a sustainable business, and that we’re not trying to destroy the environment.”

Vega was the first company in Australia to receive ISO 14046 for carbon emissions this year, as well as recently becoming an ambassador for the Victorian government’s Grow Me The Money initiative.
