Whitbread releases third edition of The Design Manual, discounted for Sprinter readers

Canberra-based designer, author and now publisher David Whitbread has released the third edition of The Design Manual, based on 12 years of research and two years of writing and production.

The Design Manual is an essential reference for all communications professionals, graphic design studios and students, editors, printers, web designers and more. The previous editions have been used as recommended texts in TAFE and university courses.

Whitbread’s inspiration for the rewrite was Jack Reacher author Lee Child. He analysed his writing style to evolve a new style of lively writing for what might otherwise have been academic text. In the hopes that it is as easy to read as Jack Reacher. Wherever you open it to.

The result is a book filled with anecdotes, quotes from diverse voices around the world, pithy explanations of terminology, and up-to-date guidance for how to approach all sorts of design projects – from logos and branding to animation and web apps, to marketing and advertising to publications and exhibitions, UX, UI, VR and AR.

AGDA founder and Australian design legend Mimmo Cozzolino wrote the foreword and said it is “Magnificent… a mighty, sound and easily accessible 647-page manual is a boon for entry level designers as well as seasoned operators”.

Melbourne-based designer, author and publisher, Tess McCabe said, “The new edition content is very considered and well-written, and would be a must-read for anyone starting out or emerging in our industry”.

The new 680-page book is available now. It has a recommended retail price of $79, and can be purchased via www.TheDesignManual.com

Sprinter subscribers can enter a discount code PRINT23 to buy it for $75 (which includes postage and handling).
