White ink specialist fights for children’s health

Queensland white ink specialist company ps creative has kick-started a children’s health mission to ensure students across Australia are eating decent, nutritional breakfasts.

The initiative, named Cereal for Coffee, encourages local cafes to participate in a trade of one free coffee for a box of cereal which is then donated to ‘breakfast clubs’ across the Queensland region.

ps creative’s founder Philip Sargeson co-found Cereal for Coffee with his wife Samara. The couple’s vision for the programme is to change Australia’s breakfast culture to make sure no child goes to school hungry.

Sargeson says, "One in three school children are going to school hungry. How is that acceptable in today’s society, in a first world country? It is estimated that the average student loses more than two hours a day of learning time when they come to school hungry."

"We want to change that. We have identified the great, sometimes unnoticed work by the Scripture Union Chaplains and Breakfast clubs. They’re already in the school building great relationships with the students, staff and community."

The company’s first event was held in September last year which resulted in a donation of some 450 boxes of cereal, and its next event is slated for June 28 across Wynnum/Manly, the Redlands and Mt Gravatt in Queensland.

The Sargesons are aiming for 1000 donated boxes of cereal to pass onto Scripture Union chaplains and organisers of local breakfast clubs.
