Women In Print expands into Ipex

Heidelberg UK has partnered with the UK's peak industry body, the British Print Industries Federation (BPIF), to trial the project.

It is being spearheaded by Heidelberg UK marketing manager Vanessa Geerling, who was formerly at Heidelberg ANZ until 2008, along with the BPIF's south-west regional director, Dawn Reed.

Geerling told ProPrint: "Heidelberg thought it was a great idea and wanted to launch it here."

She explained that Women In Print was originally the brainchild of Print NZ chief executive Joan Grace, before being adopted by the Australian print community.

"Australia is now renowned for [the initiative], even though it was originally a New Zealand idea," Geerling said.

"Women In Print was always something Heidelberg's UK management wanted to initiate."

The first UK Women In Print event will be held at 4pm on Wednesday (19 May) as a "way to gauge interest" in making it a mainstay on the UK industry calendar.

Australian Women In Print organisers described this year's events as "the best we've had" after a series of events held in capital cities across Australia in March.

Steven Kiernan is in Birmingham for the Ipex exhibition.
