Women in Print Victoria hosted a networking event in support of Share the Dignity’s August Dignity Drive.
The group was convened by Women in Print’s Victorian team, led by Patron Rita Karagiannis. Addressing the group, Karagiannis said the gathering was an important opportunity to not only connect with, and support, women from the industry, but throughout the community.
“Women in Print has always been committed to empowering women throughout the print industry, but we firmly the power of community, and the strength that comes from women uplifting one another, extends beyond far beyond those bounds,” said Karagiannis.
“Today, we have come together today for a cause that resonates deeply with our mission – supporting women and safeguarding their dignity.
“Share the Dignity provides vital assistance to women and girls facing homelessness, domestic violence or poverty, for whom the choice between buying food or sanitary products is a harsh reality. The consequences are devastating – missing school or work, feeling trapped in their own homes.
“By supporting the August Dignity Drive, we are helping ensure every woman and girl has access to the basic necessities that so many of us take for granted, so that they can live their lives with freedom and confidence.”
Those who attended the event at Pelican’s Landing brought along donations of product, which filled the Dignity Drive bin to overflowing, and many also collected donations from women and allies in their workplaces to donate to the Drive.
Steph Gaddin, the Melbourne-based chair of Women in Print, reports that Women in Print has already been able to donate hundreds of dollars’ worth of products to the drive, and is also raising funds by donation.
“It’s fantastic to be connected with such a passionate group of women, who not only step up to encourage and support each other, but who extend that support and assistance beyond the bounds of our industry to our sisters throughout the community,” Gaddin said.
“This is just one of many initiatives we are working on, ranging from small get-togethers, to education and mentoring opportunities, and of course larger events around the country. We look forward to seeing the industry’s women, their clients and friends, and of course our many allies, in the coming months and into 2025.”
