Xerox iGen4 EXP

Describe your business

Complete Colour Printing is a modern offset and digital business. We have 40 staff, we were established in 1992 and we’re based in Cheltenham, Melbourne. Our mission is to assist our customers with their communication needs, using the best manufacturing process to deliver on both quality and price for their project. We care about our customers, our employees and the environment.

What have you bought?

A Xerox iGen4 EXP.

What does it do?

The iGen4 EXP will print on substrates up to 350gsm on a sheet size of 364x660mm – allowing tri-fold 6pp A4 brochures. Being the only solution in the southern hemisphere with an inline bookletmaker, it is well suited for on-demand saddle-stitched booklets from A5 to A4 with full bleed. The Matte Dry Ink option we specified provides an offset look and feel for the finished product. Combine this with our ORIS colour management and we can produce clients’ applications to the Fogra 39 or ISO 12647-8 standard and this complements our offset colour management capabilities.

Why did you choose this product?

The test results we produced when conducting due diligence were exceptional. The flatness of the prints was similar to what we know from our offset business. The productivity, quality and range of substrates all played important parts in deciding to proceed with the iGen4 EXP. The three factors that got it over the line were its environmental credentials, its larger sheet size and the inline bookletmaker, which provides automation for finishing.

Did you consider any other products?

Yes, we considered the Xerox Color 800 Press along with two competitive platforms.

What features do you particularly like?

It is digital – so the proof is the final product. It is clean. Its finished result is on par with industry-standard offset printing. It duplexes 350gsm. Most importantly, our customers are satisfied with the finished results – that’s what we like the most. From a productivity point of view, we no longer have to take finished booklets to the bindery to have them finished.

Is there anything you wish it had that it doesn’t?

No – consistent CMYK prints are 99% of our business. We’ve seen competitors invest in seven-colour presses only to realise that they only ever use CMYK.

How fast is it?

Up to 30,000 SRA3s per shift, full colour.

How reliable is it?

With the support from Fuji Xerox customer service team and our own preventative maintenance routines, we find the platform is very reliable, which translates into customer satisfaction for meeting print deadlines.

How easy is it to use?

One operator per shift will drive the iGen4 EXP. It is very efficient and safe.

Has it saved time and money?

Definitely. When we produce finished 4pp to 80pp booklets with full bleed and the only handling of the job has been loading paper into a tray, it saves a lot of time and money. Alternatively, we would have to print flat sheets, collect and transport to our guillotine, work on it there then collect and transport to our bindery department, work on it there then collect and transport to dispatch. This would add up to much more human intervention and materials handling.

Has it won you any new business?

Yes. We can provide very fast turnaround of proofs and give our an customers exceptional service experience. We can provide very quick finished applications for clients who have ordered a large offset run but need, say, a hundred for a marketing or sales launch.

Were there any difficulties surrounding the install?

We had the perfect space because we had a slab where we had sold a Heidelberg Speedmaster press. We enclosed the area to ensure control of temperature and humidity. The iGen4 arrived on schedule and our operators were simultaneously trained while it was being installed. When they arrived back from training in Sydney, we had Fuji Xerox assist us for two weeks, following up on all the maintenance and skills our operators received.

How has the service been?

Fuji Xerox provides an average response of two hours from logging a call, so both the pre- and after-sales service have been to expectations. We liken Fuji Xerox to Heidelberg, which is our major partner in all aspects of our litho division.

Who is this product right for?

Any commercial printer who wants to provide offset look and feel with an easy-to-use digital press, and any commercial printer who wants a platform that ticks the box for their environmental statement.

Would you buy another one?

Capacity is the key. Keeping the same offset look and feel is important along with the range of stocks we can print on – both aspects result in more applications we can sell to clients.

SUPPLIER’S RESPONSE

The iGen4 EXP best suited Complete Colour’s needs from an operational perspective because they could get a lot of work out quickly with minimal staff and because of the quality it delivers. They installed an inline saddlestitcher as well so they can turn around jobs as quickly as possible with minimal human intervention. They’re the only ones in Australia that have an iGen4 with inline saddlestitching.
