Bernie Robinson steps up at ‘very profitable’ Currie

David Currie will step back from the head role to take up a position as executive chairman, with “right-hand man” Robinson stepping up from sales director.

Meanwhile, Phil Rennell has been appointed as sales and marketing director, and Andrew Fitzpatrick has been appointed as group finance director and company secretary. Andrew Matthews will also take on the role of national strategic account management and development, in addition to his existing role as national consumables manager.

Robinson told ProPrint that he felt well-prepared for the move into the hot seat after 12 years with the company.

“I’ve probably been doing this job for the last couple of years anyway, so it was a natural progression,” Robinson said.

Robinson said the company had given director positions to the management trio in order to give them a share in the business.

“We’ve wanted Phil and Andrew to become shareholders in the organisation, and to do that we have to give them directorships,” Robinson said.

“The company has been very profitable over the last few years. As a group, we’ve worked very well together to make sure we have a presence with customers out there, and we are moving hardware and consumables.”

While he will still report to David Currie, Robinson said his main brief was to get out of the office to meet customers and give the company’s interstate branches “more support”, as well as increasing the company’s market share.
