The exercise, conducted on a Komori printing press at CPI’s headquarters in Braeside, Melbourne, took the form of an evaluation of eight matt and gloss-coated stocks widely used in the commercial printing industry to establish LAB values for the primary colours of Tokyo Cervo Inks.

The eight paper stocks evaluated (all a uniform 150gsm) were Silk Gloss, Magno Gloss, Magno Satin, E Master Gloss, E Master Silk, Quatro Gloss, New Era Satin and Summit Gloss.

ColourProcess managing director Yves Roussange said he was glad to find “a good, open-minded partner in CPI” to help him share details of the accreditation process with the industry.

“The issue we are facing is an education issue,” said Roussange. “If you say to a group of printers that you’re printing to ISO, about eight out of ten would have no idea what you’re talking about, but it’s a big issue the industry is facing.

“I’m thinking perhaps this will open the eyes of a lot of printers, who may think, ‘hey, if this guy can do it, a lot of guys can do it’.”
