Fairfax opens up stock options with $750k spend on UV dryers

Bob Lockley, chief executive of Fairfax Print, said the installations would allow the company to be more flexible and offer new opportunities to advertisers.

“UV dryers give us the opportunity to enhance product on uncoated stocks and even on coated stocks.”

It is the newspaper giant’s first investment in the air-cooled QuadCure UV-drying technology.

QuadCure technology uses eight water channels to ensure minimal heating of the substrate and press and remove any heat absorbed by the shutter backings.

Baldwin vice-president Peter Hultberg said: “Fairfax Media Limited ordered these UV dryers to be installed on existing press installations to significantly improve print quality and enable use of a wider range of paper qualities”.

Baldwin president Mark Becker added that the investments came at a time of significant growth for the company.

“These new UV and other Baldwin product developments enable Baldwin to plan for growth in new segments in the global print markets as well as expanding our technologies for applications outside of traditional print,” he said.
