Galley Club reveals shortlist for 2011 awards

Local entrants include PMP’s book division, Griffin Press, and IPMG’s web printing arm, Offset Alpine, who face the likes of Japanese giant Toppan Printing.

Last year’s big winners, McPherson’s Printing Group and Hong Kong-based 1010 Printing, are also up for awards this year, with 1010 Printing receiving a leading 10 nominations.

McPherson’s will be hoping to defend the crown of ‘Australian Book of the Year’ after back-to-back wins in 2009 and 2010.

The awards celebrate excellence in book and magazine production and will be held on 22 July at the Argyle Function Centre in The Rocks, Sydney.

The ceremony will once again be hosted by radio and television personality James O’Loughlin.

Galley Club president Michael Schulz, who is director of SOS Print & Media Group, was enthusiastic about this year’s competition.

“Good quality books in these times of e-books are becoming more and more important and this year we have very high-quality entries,” he said.

“The quality is high, the interest is high, the venue is great, and it is going to be a really good night for everyone.”
