Auspack highlighting Industry 4.0

APPMA is set to present its two day inaugural conference on Industry 4.0, what it means, and how it affects packaging printers and converters.

Taking place at Auspack in Melbourne next week across Tuesday and Wednesday, the talks titled ‘Smart. Connected. Sustainable.’ will feature the Adjunct Professor of Engineering at UTS, along with multiple business leaders in the private sector.

The conference will touch on the benefits of integrated supply chains, collaborative robots, blockchain, and product traceability.

Mark Dingley, chairman, Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association (APPMA) explains, “Manufacturers are beginning to get their heads around terms such as smart factories, now it’s time to learn about smart supply chains. Several sessions at next week’s Auspack 2019 Business and Industry Conference will be devoted to understanding these smart factories and supply chains of the future.

“The content will provide delegates a strong understanding of what they can do and implement in their own factories the minute they leave the conference. There are some highly practical, highly knowledgeable presenters and practitioners, who’ll do this through keynote addresses, panel discussions and case studies. Just showing how far-reaching the ‘smart’ entities are, sessions are embedded in both conference streams: one, processing and packaging, and two, business growth.”

John Broadbent, founder, Realise Potential, is a smart factories mentor, along with his role as Adjunct Professor of Engineering at UTS, and will be delivering the keynote, which focuses on demystifying smart terminology, helping business to understand how to start moving toward Industry 4.0.

Broadbent will explain the differences between IOT (Internet of Things) and IIOT (Industrial Internet of Things), what Industry 4.0 is and why most businesses can’t get past Industry 3.0. His session will also include some practical tips to begin a successful transition to being a smart factory.

He will then facilitate a panel discussion in the processing and packaging stream around taking the next step and implementing Industry 4.0.

Dingley concludes, “For a business owner or manager, understanding not only what ‘smart supply chains’ and factories of the future are, but how to implement them in their own business, is important in ensuring sustainability of that business.

“Tickets have been selling really well, which just shows how important these issues are to industry. I encourage all those who want to learn more, to register now.”

This years edition of Auspack features over 350 suppliers, including 100 international exhibitors and 85 APPMA members, displaying over 1,200 global brands covering the latest global trends: fast and flexible machinery, track and trace, smart packaging, digital printing, accessibility and convenience, the explosion in e-commerce, entry-level equipment, robots, and factories of the future.
