Aussie companies win big at PIXI awards

Sydney-based The Digital Centre had the most success of the locals, winning first prize in the ‘Books and Manuals’ category for its submission ‘Body of Work – Free Spirit’ (pictured), with company director Stuart Collins reporting that they were “thrilled” with the news.

“When we were approached by corporate design company Armstrong Miller + McLaren to produce this book, we saw an opportunity to utilise our production expertise in bringing together a mix of embellishment techniques that are traditionally associated with offset printing.”

The resulting catalogue was produced on an iGen3 digital production press, and contained spot UV throughout, featured a matt cello-glazed embossed cover, and was perfect-bound.

Meanwhile, Griffin Digital, a subsidiary of printing giant PMP, received an honourable mention in the same category for their ‘Rooftops’ book, whilst Blue Star GO, a division of the trans-Tasman Blue Star Print Group, won one of four ‘Best in Region’ prizes.

The PIXIs received up to 100 submissions from the Asia-Pacific region this year, with nine of these coming from Australia. The PIXIs have been running for seven years, with this year’s expanded program handing out 42 awards in the categories of Books and Manuals, Collateral, Direct Marketing, New Business Application and Transactional Promotion.
