Australian Paper granted FSC certification

FSC certification officially recognises the mill as a socially, environmentally and economically responsible user of the world’s forests as outlined in the principles of the Forest Stewardship.

“It’s important that Australian Paper is considered to be environmentally and socially responsible and is meeting the requirements of best practise in the world today,” says executive general of corporate affairs at parent company Paperlinx, David Shirer.

The FSC’s certification programs are well established and are considered by the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF), as the only credible system to ensure environmental sustainability. Since the FSC’s certification program begun, more than 500 forest managers and 2500 paper producers have demonstrated their commitment to responsible forest management by certifying their operations to FSC standards.

Australian Paper’s Shoalhaven mill was granted FSC certification following an independent verification audit for adherence to FSC Chain of Custody processes. This ensures that all wood fibres used by the company in the manufacture of the company’s paper is from environmentally managed forests.

The company’s Maryvale and Tasmanian mills are currently undergoing FSC assessment with the hope of obtaining FSC certification later this year.

Australian Paper, headquartered in Melbourne, produces fine printing and writing papers together with packaging and industrial paper grades in Australia. It produces a range of recycled, virgin, bleached and brown packaging papers for corrugated box, paper sack, envelope and bag applications for printing and packaging, and employs more than 1700 people across Australia.
