Brisbane digital press operator to sprint for gold at London Olympics

Andrew McCabe has been selected in Australia's 4x100m relay team and has until this Sunday to qualify for the individual 200m event.

The 21-year-old left Worldwide Spring Hill in Brisbane's CBD about five weeks ago.

McCabe told ProPrint he had resigned to devote more attention to training for London after having struggled to juggle athletics, work and full-time study for an education degree.

McCabe worked as a digital print specialist and also had a stint filling in as assistant manager.

He joined the business in 2010 after working as a personal trainer for Spring Hill co-owner Scott Gettings.

He said he had enjoyed his time in the industry and was hopeful of returning to printing after the Olympics if it could fit in with his busy schedule.

McCabe is a 200m specialist and hopes to one day break the Australian record (20.06 seconds). His personal best is 20.70 seconds.
