
The Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns sites were shut yesterday. It is believed that all jobs were cut.
Geon has six other Australian locations: its Banksmeadow print site and Parramatta mailing operation in Sydney, Mt Waverley in Melbourne and Bassendean in Perth plus facilities in Canberra and Hobart.
ProPrint understands that deals for some of those operations are imminent, with both industry buyers and management buyout teams expected to acquire different parts of the company.
Perth is widely seen as the best performer.
The first division to be spun off and sold was Geon Labels, which was acquired by Blue Star New Zealand owner Tom Sturgess.
On 1 March, Geon receivers, McGrath Nicol, said that the decision by "key paper suppliers" to cut off supply meant it would have to "undertake an urgent appraisal of the business to consider cost reduction strategies which could involve plant closures and job losses".
Geon entered administration and receivership on 20 February.
At the time, Geon chief executive Graham Morgan announced that debt holders KKRM had put in an offer to buy the business out of receivership. It now looks unlikely this will happen.
