BWL taps Australian niche

Run by husband and wife team Byron and Colleen Hodson from their West Auckland premises, the company has now expanded into the Australian market with its hard plastic boxes which are manufactured in Avondale and distributed into Australia from Sydney.

The Hodson’s bought BWL Packaging four years ago and have since seen sales increase by 50 per cent on the back of an expanding product range.

While the move across the Tasman was a calculated one, they are delighted with the response to their card boxes which are equally popular with printers this side of the ditch.

“Most companies these days take a more professional approach, and business cards look a whole lot better presented to customers in plastic card boxes than wrapped in brown paper and sellotape,” says Byron.

BWL also distributes a range of other products which include its own branded A4 and A3 ream boxes, plastic brochure stands, letterhead trays, CD calendar cases and playing card boxes.

While the printing industry is their main focus, BWL has moved into the corporate and tourist markets using their card boxes for branded golf ball and tee sets popular as corporate and souvenir gifts, the latter being sold through tourist shops around the country.

BWL golf ball sets were used by players in this year’s Printer Magazine Group-sponsored Pre Press and Printers Golf Tournament at Huapai, West Auckland.
