Dflow showcases innovation in digital at PacPrint

Technical agency and product lab Dflow took to the recent PacPrint tradeshow in Melbourne to showcase its range of products and technologies.

Dflow chief executive Doug Robey told Sprinter that the company is focusing more on the Asia-Pacific region, bringing its pre-press solutions to market.

One of its biggest customers in Australia is CMYKhub.

“CMYKhub has been using our pre-press service, Synergy, for about four years now. They’re probably the most well-known customer in Australia that we can talk about,” Robey said.

“CMYKhub processes over 10,000 orders a month. So scaling their capacity while controlling costs was one of their main requirements. That’s where we fit in as we create a lot of automation, but in a more cost-effective way.

“They also have quality control and specific processes. So, us understanding the print industry and pre-press was vital when we started discussions with them. This ensures that they have comfort that we know what we’re talking about. If any issues arise or they would like to do a specific process, we understand their needs and we apply it into our system.”

Synergy is Dflow’s latest product – it is a pre-press workflow system that combines automation with the work of people as there are certain techniques that can’t be automated.

“Providing skilled pre-press labour is now a solution to people because they can’t find it. Printers are struggling to find staff. So, what Synergy does is outsource pre-press. Because back in the day, it was always outsourced; it was never internal to the printer. So, we’re trying to go back to that in a modern way,” Robey said.

“The entire platform is cloud-based so it means ease of use for the printer. We have the skills and the staff to drive the technology so that takes the challenge of finding pre-press staff away from printers to focus on developing customer relationships.”

The pre-press work through Synergy gets sent to a mixture of teams within Australia, but also outsourced to Bali, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Robey also said that Dflow is working on launching another product, Preflightr, to market. Preflightr is a solution that will use data to drive pre-flight intelligence.

“The solution not only checks for the specifics of the file, but also for the intent. A printer can buy Preflightr and put it in front of the customer facing portal – it’s a bolt on for anybody who would like to use their receiving files for their customer to check.”
