Digital guru warns PacPrint visitors: abandon print at your peril

Anders Sorman-Nilsson, the founder of research and strategy company Thinque, said customers wanted printers to deliver the best of analogue and digital worlds.

"This is great news for business owners as they plan for the future," he said.

"While there is no question the industry is in a period of significant change, or disruption, you don't need to immediately re-equip or change direction. It’s more about allowing convergence, about a gradual transition."

Sorman-Nilsson will discuss global change and the implications for business at the first of the PacPrint Forum sessions on 22 May. He will tell visitors that the "very effective medium of print" still has a bright future.

"Print is still one of the customer experience touchpoints that thrill people, that speaks to their hearts as well as their heads," he said.

"Harness that strength together with the undoubted power of digital technologies to make their lives easier, facilitate action and expand and enhance their total experience – that is, take a multi-channel or omni-channel approach – and it's easy to see how what we might term 'traditional' print can be very fundamental and important on an ongoing basis."

The second PacPrint Forum session on 23 May will feature a panel discussion about industry challenges. The final session in 24 May will see Olympic gold medal-winning coach Ric Charlesworth discuss leadership and managing transitions. Sessions are free and run from 11am to 12.30pm.

PacPrint will run from 21-25 May at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
