The early findings by Customers are that there is a major discrepancy between the factual evidence and what Australian Paper had initially claimed. The initial action purported that exports from China of A4 Cut Reams were occurring at less than half the price the product was being sold for in China.

According to Customs, the exports are being made at 6.5 per cent more than the net domestic price in China. While Australian Paper will be given the opportunity to contest these findings and provide reason for the prosecution to continue, the discrepancies, coupled by the cost and effort required to chase up what appears to be an unfounded claim, it s expected the case will be dismissed in the near future.

The anti-dumping measures that were also put in place on A4 Cut Reams from Finland, Germany and South Africa, are set to expire in February 2004, and with no further submissions received regarding the matter, it is expected that Customs will let the measures cease.
