Tim Harcourt, Austrade chief economist, says at least 50 per cent of Australian exporters become so by accident.
“Austrade research has found many companies succeed in exporting even though they didn’t plan to go international,” Harcourt says.
“That suggests Austrade’s new online export opportunity website will result in more companies getting into export.”
Henry Cawte, Austrade Export Opportunities Matching Unit export adviser, says over the past week, Austrade has listed 12 new opportunities worth an approximate total value of $7m on its website.
“The initiative, to list online export opportunities on a daily basis, is part of the organisation’s efforts to double the number of Australian exporters,” Cawte says.
“In the past week alone, we have received more than 30 inquiries from Australian businesses relating to new opportunities on the website which have been identified by Austrade staff around the world.”
Australian printers can obtain further details about new export opportunities by logging on to www.austrade.gov.au selecting Export Opportunities from the menu and completing the request for more information next to the export opportunity of interest.
