Katie O’Connor, marketing manager at Hilton Laminating, one of Australia’s leading suppliers of finishing equipment and consumables, says the foiling trend has been around for a few years but in very recent times has gained real momentum.

“We know how excited people get when they see our foiling range – and with good reason,” O’Connor said.

“Everyone loves the spectrum of shiny colours to choose from, none more so than the clients. All of our foils are toner transfer foils which is very easily done for the modern printer. This method is as simple
as printing what you wish to foil, then using equipment that can apply heat, pressure and that has a rewinder for waste. This enables the user to achieve a brilliant, foiled finish.”

The Neptune fully automatic B3 laminating system is available through Hilton Laminating.

Complementing the foiling process is Hilton’s specialty finishing laminating films – Anti-Scuff, VelvetTouch and PET. The Anti-Scuff bulletproofs all products which can be prone to high wear. O’Connor gives examples – presentation folders, book covers, menus, and packaging. VelvetTouch adds a lush feel to all products needing a true, ‘five-star’ finish. And its PET film is available in matte and gloss and varies from 30 microns to 250 microns – a harder wearing product that offers greater diversity in achieving different thickness in creating dynamic new products for printers’ customers.

“We have a huge range of foils with the gold, silver and rose gold being top favourites, however, people love the fancy finishes like illusion (pearlescent silver), holographics and spot-gloss UV. Also very popular are the specialty laminates, the Anti-Scuff, Velvet Touch, PET 150mic-250mic.”
