Entry level digital print

Fuji Xerox Color J75 Press

Fuji Xerox Australia now has a number of products specifically designed to suit smaller businesses or entry level digital print environments. These include the Color J75 Press and Color C75 Press. Fuji Xerox says the success of these entry level production devices is unsurpassed, with more than 250 printers installed since their launch.

For print businesses servicing clients who need very small quantities of high quality colour output, the Color J75 Press offers a smaller footprint, increased automation, excellent print quality and cost efficiencies.

According to Fuji Xerox Australia, the Color J75 Press can minimise workflow costs and optimise operating efficiencies with faster turnaround times. It offers print quality on jobs that require migrating from simple colour customer requests to the more complex jobs where colour matching is critical.

The Color J75 Press provides more versatility by enabling new applications and integrating to existing business processes. Automation has been upgraded with the Automated Color Quality Suite (ACQS) on the J75 and Simplified Image Quality Adjustment (SIQA) tool set on the C75 and J75, so businesses spend less time in print makeready and maintenance.

The automatic inline spectrophotometer system, called the ACQS, ensures the J75 delivers quick, simple monitoring and calibration. The J75 also features an adjustment control system called Simple Imaging Quality Adjustment (SIQA), which monitors the input/output density or colour variation and quickly corrects any discrepancy.

Perhaps one of the greatest perks of the Color J75 for small and medium commercial digital printers is its capacity to maintain rated speed on all stocks up to 300gsm. The J75 is able to run at 76 pages per minute for paper weight up to 300gsm, making it easier for commercial printers to accurately quote on jobs requiring heavier stock without the problems of slow-down during production.

The Color J75’s workflow and automation systems work together to allow hands-off, one-button control for operators.

Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C6000

Konica Minolta’s entry level colour digital product for printing professionals is the bizhub PRESS C6000 system. The system’s production print capabilities allow a multitude of paper input, inline finishing and print controller options, and can be supplied in a basic configuration that has flat sheet capabilities to produce high quality digital colour print output.

For the bizhub PRESS C6000, Konica Minolta’s third-generation production colour system, the company has developed integrated changes at every stage to make its print systems more in tune with print professionals’ requirements.

The PRESS C6000 system is the company’s most popular colour print system in all market sectors where colour print quality is demanded. Typical print jobs include business cards, promotional material, educational documents, general images and documents, and advertising material such as brochures and booklets. With the media flexibility the PRESS C6000 offers, print jobs from as small as A5 to SRA3 sheets can be printed directly, and with the addition of inline finishing, saddle stitched booklets and even perfect bound books can be created.

To suit varied customer needs and workflow requirements, three print controllers are supported on the bizhub PRESS C6000 system. These include the Creo/Kodak IC-307, which offers variable data capabilities and seamless offset workflow integration to CtP workflows such as Kodak Prinergy. The EFI Fiery IC-306 external server allows full use of EFI’s standard features such as Command Work Station for job management, and more advanced features such as Compose and Impose for print layout and document design. The other EFI offering is the embedded Fiery IC-413. This is by far the most popular print controller as it has the power of its bigger brother but is an economical alternative.

The Konica Minolta embedded print controller, the IC-601, represents high quality, excellent performance and full integration to the print system at an affordable cost.

The bizhub PRESS C6000 offers production speeds of 60ipm in colour or monochrome, with print quality and speeds assured by Konica Minolta’s control colour and process calibrations while printing.

Océ VarioPrint 120

The Océ varioPRINT series of monochrome production engines has been designed to address issues of image consistency, ease of operation, system configurability and performance uptime for printers.

Océ’s DirectPress technology replaces multiple process steps involving many variables with a single digital process which isn’t affected by light, static charge, temperature, humidity, developer or toner mixtures. The company claims it offers the benefits of highly stable and consistent quality output without streaks, striping or banding.

DirectPress technology presses the image directly onto the paper using a low fusing temperature. This allows the use of a diverse range of media including structured or textured stocks, opening a diversity of choice to customers.

The varioPrint 120 is capable of accurate duplex printing. An intelligent sensor-controlled process produces precise front-to-back image registration for services including high visibility, quality intensive jobs, tapping into profitable new applications.

Océ ScreenPoint technology reproduces halftones and photographs with very high resolution, dense black fill and precise fine lines. Colour files can also be printed in black-and-white. The system supports quality conversion to generate smooth greyscale transitions. Printers can also adjust image contrast and control the lightness or darkness of an image with no loss of detail.

The operator panel combines controller, user interface and engine in one integrated concept. All system functions and settings are accessible from the colour touchscreen, and the system can be configured to drive production printing, scanning, copying and advanced job editing.

The user interface displays the total production schedule, indicating when jobs will be finished, allowing production planning for up to eight hours in advance. A colour coding system also alerts operators to upcoming interventions like media refills. Intelligent job scheduling ensures uninterrupted production and workload planning.

A customised, define-once media catalogue drives workflow with all the printer settings needed to handle media consistently and productively. Océ Paper Logic ensures correct media loading even with pre-printed or pre-punched stock, virtually eliminating errors and waste.

Lanier Pro C651EX

Lanier says that the Pro C651EX offers the highest specification in its class for printers seeking entry into production digital printing.

The Lanier Pro C651EX uses the company’s Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology for 4,800dpi resolution, along with chemical PxP toner and oil-less technology to provide accurate, offset-like image quality, claims Lanier.

It also offers media versatility, with broad paper support for stocks up to 300gsm in weight.

It has been designed to deliver maximum monthly volumes of 180,000, printing at 65ppm in both colour and mono.

A new liquid cooling system enables extended and continuous printing, and operator replaceable units and toner bottles, waste toner and media changes on the fly.

Resolutions up to 4,800dpi can be used for very high image quality, with as many as 40 laser beams emitting simultaneously for accurate and smooth image quality.

Duplex registration helps with printing of items such as business cards, postcards and publications. The combination of mechanical registration and VCSEL technology corrects paper skews and compensates for media distortion to ensure precise image positioning and accurate registration on both sides.

Lanier’s PxP polymerised toner, featuring ultra-fine particles with a low melting point, offers image quality to rival offset and expands the scope of printed materials. New active toner density control monitors the amount of toner being used, and provides the developer unit with the right amount at the right time for consistent colour uniformity across the sheet.

Lanier’s PPS Workflow offers a portfolio of one-stop print management solutions to save time and reduce costs. Covering production print work from submission to output, PPS helps to manage entire workflows, simplify workflow processes and expand marketing capabilities.
