The company has added a number of new features make them suitable for packaging, spot colour reproduction, and contract and remote proofing.

The 60cm-wide Stylus Pro 7900 and 112cm-wide Stylus Pro 9900 use a new fifth-generation ink, Ultrachrome HDR, which has 11 colours, including orange and green, to offer an increased colour gamut.

They also use a new thin film piezo (TFP) print head, which produces higher resolutions, faster and with rounder dots.

Also featured is an inline X-Rite spectrophotometer, which can be used for automatic machine calibration and for proof verification.

Its ability to operate in UV and UV-cut modes with black or white backing of the measurement patch means the machine conforms to the specification for ISO 12647-7 for proofing.

“This is a professional implementation of a spectrophotometer inline,” Epson Europe senior business manager Claas Jeppson said.

He added the machines could be seen on Epson’s drupa stand, being driven by all major proofing packages.
