FBC calls on printers to go green

Aussie print businesses need to be start being environmentally smart in supply chain management, says the Future Business Council.

The FBC released a report revealing consumers are demanding sustainable business practices in all aspects of trade, and supply chain sustainability is more important than ever.

The research found that, despite growth in sustainable certification in other business practices, some companies are not valuing sustainable supply chains highly enough.

The Forest Stewardship Council Australia is partnering with Fairtrade Australia and NZ and Rainforest Alliance to hold a forum ‘Demanding Change by Changing Demand,’ which, according to the FSC, can help Aussie print businesses see value in total sustainability.

The forum is being held on November 25 at the Ibis Hotel in Melbourne,

Corporate sustainability and membership lead Tamsien West says the print industry is progressive in certification, and companies such as Fuji Xerox are paving the way for more FSC certified print groups.

“There are more than 100 FSC certified printers in Australia, and they are reaping the benefits of it,” she says.

“These benefits are improvements in management, traceability and supply chain security. From a sales perspective, most consumers are seeking environmentally friendly paper and printed materials.”

FSC Australia chief executive Adam Beaumont says he is ‘excited to discuss what the future holds’ for sustainability standards in Aussie businesses.

“This forum provides an opportunity to build stronger relationships between certification systems and businesses,” he says.

“We know that businesses require more evidence about the value of certification for regulating supply chains and building consumer trust.”
