First Printovation Awards go off with a bang

Commenting on the night, Theo Pettaras chairperson of the awards said, “The Printovation awards are designed to get people to think outside the square and help invigorate the industry. Considerable time was spent in the judging of the awards.”

During the ceremony, at the Harbourside event centre, Look Print took out the wide format category for its entry Building Art, with judges saying that in the true spirit of innovation, the entry will open up new markets for print.

In the Offset/Web Category, judges said Fluoro Publications’ winning entry Fluoro7 made interesting use of technically difficult print technologies, including cold foiling, embossing and four-colour printing.

In the Digital (Non-variable) Category, winner Print Portal and its entry It’s Weird in Here dazzled the judges with the interesting selection of stocks and overall job presentation that showcased Print Portals’ extended capabilities.

In the Digital (Variable) category the judges were not able to award an outstanding winner award. However, they did make special note of the YellowPostie Personalised Greeting Cards that received a Highly Commended award for its imaginative use of technology across two communication channels.

Watermarx Graphics and Royle Industries both took home Printovation Awards in the general category. Judges said entries in the general category included a number of innovative and exciting examples of print and finishing.Watermarx Graphics were recognised for the innovative processes used in creating the PULP Business Cards, with the use of polymer plates. Meanwhile, Royle Industries has developed a mechanism to provide an alternative binding method in an economical way.

The event was hosted Greek TV personality Effie, who said the night had the awards had the tension of the academy awards. She joked, “Life is all about looks, do you think people choose print on its personality?”
