Flint shows its true colours

First up was Duracure, aimed at commercial and packaging printers. The company says it has been developed to adhere to a number of different substrate types, and is formulated to print onto non-porous substrates such as plastics, films, laminated boards and foils.

According to Flint Schmidt, Duracure provides high scuff resistance and high colour strength. Ideal applications include pre-formed cups and tubs, POP displays, signage, labels, phone cards and membership cards.

Flint also announced the launch of its Astrathane MF ink, a multifunctional ink system that the company says achieves strong bonds when laminated and provides superior printed results for both surface and reverse flexo and gravure printing. Astrathane is nitro-cellulose based, which Flint says allows increases in print efficiency and reduction in cost by enabling flexible packaging converters and printers to rely on a single ink system for a broad array of applications.

The company also launched a new low-viscocity UV flexo ink, which the company says provide consistent on-press performance while yielding high gloss high colour strength images. According to Flint the low-viscocity formulations maximise print productivity by eliminating mid-run viscocity adjustment or continuous pH monitoring.

There are two inks in the group, Cureflex, which the company describes as a free-radical curing UV flexo ink, and Ultraflex, which is a cationic curing UV flexo ink. Applications include aluminium converting, shrink labelling, carton, board and labels.

Finally Flint Schmidt launched Rub n Smell, a range of scented inks aimed at driving brand sales at point of purchase. The new inks have been developed in partnership with Scentisphere, a producer of scented products.

The inks can be formulated with stock scents, like lemon, or custom fragrances. The ink are applied directly over printed graphics and activated when rubbed.
