Focus in Melbourne plant switch

Focus Print Group owner Mark Shergill has shifted his Melbourne premises into a bigger site across town, with a busy growth period sparking the move.

Shergill is in the process of moving his plant from his leased premises in Burwood to a newly purchased facility in Keysborough, making all three Focus locations – in Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland – company-owned.

According to Focus general manager Susan Smart, the printer outgrew its original Burwood location, a facility it had been leasing for several years.

“We have had quite a lot of work coming into our Melbourne business, so we were getting too large for the building and needed something much bigger. Now we are in the process of setting everything up, and it is a huge job because we are taking all our existing machinery,” says Smart.

“Having company-owned properties has been a long-term goal for Mark, as it shows we are investing in both our business and the industry. It is also positive in terms of attracting new clients, and the ability to move work around easily gives clients peace of mind as a risk management strategy.”

Smart says the new Keysborough plant is some 3500sqm – a sizable expansion from its 2700sqm in Burwood to accommodate the printer’s growing client list.

“Focus is quite flat out at the moment across all of our three sites. We have scored a lot of big jobs lately and are feeling positive about the business,” adds Smart.

Focus’s Victorian division houses a suite of offset, folding and stitching equipment including a ten-colour Heidelberg SM 102, a two-colour Shinohara, four Stahl 27 folders, a Muller Martini Prima and a Horizon digital stitcher.

The move is slated for completion within the next few weeks, and Smart assures there is no disruption to the business during the relocation.

Focus Print Group comprises of five companies including recently purchased sheetfed printer Sydney Allen, LPS, PrintWarehouse, Focus Press and BPA Print.
