Focus kit goes under hammer today

Auctioning of kit from collapsed printer Focus Press begins today, with equipment from the Canberra and Wollongong sites going under the hammer until next Tuesday.

Printing, office and warehousing equipment; paper and ink stocks; prepress kit; and even a truck are up for grabs at opening prices as low as $9 via the GraysOnline auction site, ending between 2pm and 5pm Tuesday August 12.

The auction of kit from the Strathfield and Matraville sites begins on August 14 and ends August 20.

After the banks are paid off, money raised will hopefully trickle down to the more than 200 trade creditors left out of pocket when Focus crashed in April with debts of more than $27.3m.

The first auction is headlined by a 2009 Komori Lithrone LS-529 sheetfed press from the Canberra plant with an opening price of $250,000, a Fuji Xerox 700i digital printer starting at $9, and several finishing machines with reserve prices in the tens of thousands.

Grays says several Fuji Xerox digital printers – a 2011 Fuji Xerox 1000 Colour Digital Press, Nuvera 288 digital printer and a low-end wide format machine – have been held out of the auction, along with the damaged KBA Rapida 105 12-colour press that is the subject of a $12.9m insurance claim.

Heidelberg Print Finance has also retained an XL75 10-colour press from the Matraville plant, two SG350 saddle stitchers, and a Polar 135 finishing set for a separate sale.

The Matraville and Strathfield South plants will be sold by CBRE at an undetermined future date once the kit auctions are completed and items cleared out of the facilities.

Interested buyers must be able to pay the full amount within two business days and be able to pick up the items from the former Focus sites. There is a buyer’s premium of 12.5 per cent plus GST on top of the sale price.

Bids within the last 10 minutes of the auction will extend the time until no other bids are entered, preventing the last minute ‘sniping’ auction sites like eBay are notorious for.

Buyers can contact Ryan Clifton or Bernice Quinn at Grays directly for more information.
