Govt calls for $3m plastic cards tender

The Federal Government is calling on printers to tender for the printing of its Department of Human Services card manufacturing and personalisation services.

  The successful tender will secure a two year contract with the Human Service department, with three one-year options to extend at its sole discretion. The department says it currently produces up to 11.7 million plastic cards per year at a cost of $3m. The contract will see the successful printer produce Medicare cards, senior health cards, pension cards and veteran cards. The successful printer must be able to receive securely transmitted data from the department of Human Services. The printer must be be able to personalise cards, emboss, laser print, magnetic stripe encoding and initialising, personalise and print card carrier stationary, tip and despatch completed cards with card carriers and relevant inserts into envelopes. The department of Human Services says the printer must able to securely store the artwork and stock including envelopes, printed material and inserts provided by the department, the printer must also hold ISO 7810, 7811, 9001:2000 and 14001 certification, and create an environmental management plan. Printers that would like to tender for the contract must lodge a response using the Tender Box on the AusTender website www.tenders.gov.au by August 21. With the government recently calling on businesses to share their views on the proposed introduction of a Prompt Payment Protocol in Australia, which aims to help strengthen small business payment terms, cash flow and businesses to business relationships, the successful tenderer must pay invoices within 30 days.
