Heather wins Tassie Apprentice of the Year

Heather (pictured, centre) received his award along with a $1000 cheque from Heidelberg at a ceremony last week in Hobart. He will now be nominated for the Tasmanian Government’s Apprentice of the Year Awards.

Heather beat out competition from five other apprentices recommended by RMIT University, who were all interviewed by Printing Industries’ Ron Patterson and the Tasmanian Regional Council’s Danny Roach.

Maureen Oates, managing editor of the Huon Valley News, said her staff were all “excited” at Heather’s win.

“Everyone has to learn how to do everything here and be multi-skilled,” she said. “That is the aim and that is the reality, and it is only possible because of the contribution made by all our staff members.”

In addition to producing the Huon Valley News newspaper each week, the company also undertakes commercial printing such as business cards, brochures, calendars, and yearbooks.
