Short Wave Halogen emitters produce the near infrared (NIR) spectrum. This part of the infrared spectrum transfers great amounts of energy. Short Wave Twin Tube emitters also allow rapid transfer of large amounts of energy. These emitters are stable in lengths up to 2.2m. Short wave radiation is particularly advantageous for high rates of energy transfer and fast heating processes. Medium Wave Twin Tube emitters are especially good for continuous processes and can be manufactured to suit all machine widths. Medium wave radiation has the better efficiency for drying processes. Drying with medium wave radiation uses little energy, so that there is less effect on the surrounding environment and on the printed material. With water-based varnishes, energy savings of up to 50 per cent are possible, says Heraeus Amba. Fast-response Medium Wave emitters offer high-energy transfer for very fast processes.
The new Carbon Infrared Technology CIR brings a significantly increased power density to the effective medium wave radiation, says the company, and printing machine manufacturers are increasingly using Carbon Infrared technology as the drying system of choice for their presses. Heraeus Amba Australia offers Near Infrared (NIR) as well as Carbon Technology (CIR) and testing is available.
