Former Visy, Amcor and PMP exec Scott Hillberg has been appointed as the new CEO of Immij, and will step into the role next month.
Current incumbent Michael Smithe, who has led the company since its inception in 2008, will move into the newly created role of chief operating officer and executive director.
Immij chairman Alistair Hill says the company was delighted to have recruited Hillberg. “Scott will be a great asset for our company, and we are looking forward to him being part of our team,” he says. Commenting on Smithe he says, “Michael has done an extraordinary job as managing director, leading the company from its inception in 2008 – on the eve of the global financial crisis – to its marketleading position today.”
Hill signalled a readiness for Immij to grow through acquisition, he says, “Our success has been achieved mainly through organic growth during a tough period for the industry, when many businesses have declined or failed. We are now ready to also consider acquisition opportunities with consolidation continuing to be a high priority for the industry.”
For Hillberg Immij is a great business with a strong culture and future, he says, “Immij has an excellent reputation for quality and service, and is also an employer of choice within the industry. The company’s recent growth has been phenomenal. I will focus on continuing the good work that Immij has achieved with a focus on growth in its specialist areas”.
Smithe says he is proud to have led the company during the past eight years. “I am excited about my new role, which will enable me to concentrate on the operations of our business, which I am very passionate about,” he says, adding, “I wish Scott the best with his exciting new opportunity.”
Immij was created in 2008 on the eve of the financial crisis as a greenfield start-up with no sales. Today, the company has offices and manufacturing plants in both Melbourne and Sydney employing 150 staff. Smithe was general manager of Penfold Buscombe, while Immij chairman Alistair Hill was managing director of the Promentum-owned company. The now defunct Geon took over Penfold Buscombe when it acquired Promentum in 2007.
The company says it leads the printing industry with cutting-edge corporate printing, management, and warehouse solutions, along with niche areas such as UV printing, horticultural solutions, and direct marketing products. Immij has recently undertaken a major upgrade of its plant and equipment.
