The signage and graphics industries were out in force last night for the lively HP Australian Sign and Graphics Association (ASGA) Awards which were held at the Aviary in Melbourne’s Crown Casino on the first night of PacPrint.
In all 478 entries were received across 22 categories for the awards from locations including Townsville, Perth and New Zealand with categories including wide format printing, car wrapping, printed fabrics and fabrication.
The event was hosted by Australian stand-up comedian, actor, TV and radio presenter, Dave Thornton.
Liberty Signs CEO David Cross took out the People’s Choice Award, for the work done on a recent campaign for Donut King.
“First of all I would like to thank the organisers of this beautiful evening. To win this award is an incredible acknowledgement of the work that we do,” Cross said after accepting his award.
Other winners included apprentice Luke Lambourne from SS Signs. Lambourne won the Young Stars Award and was recognised for his work on a Blundstone Arena LED Project in Tasmania.
ASGA President Mick Harrold said it was great to see the industry come together again to celebrate and appreciate the diverse range of skills and talent that this industry offers.
“The judges had a challenging task selecting the winners, with a record 476 entries received across 22 categories. As well as some familiar sign companies taking out Gold awards this year, such as Kingman, Cunneen Signs and Grafico Group, there were a number of companies who posted entries for the first time that also featured on the winners list – Zimmerman Industries, OMG!, Signhub, Neolite, Specialbuild, Signcraft, Signageworld and Signage Fleet. While the winners are to be congratulated for their deserving wins, everyone that entered the Awards are worthy of their efforts. The last couple of years have not been easy, so to be able to produce such outstanding creative and innovating work, shows the resilience of the people that make up this industry,” Harrold said.
“It was great to see so many people participating in the People’s Choice Award voting process this year. With a total of 1856 likes across 20 categories that featured images as part of the Awards entry process, this activity has helped to spread the word about the creativity and ingenuity of sign businesses. Congratulations to Liberty Signs’ who won the Award for the third year running. Their entry, Donuts Anyone? from the Vehicle Wraps category received the most likes.
