The carnival is presented in the form of a series of five 90 minute sessions in Melbourne and Sydney, with attendees choosing one. As part of the carnival HP is offering the opportunity to take part in a 3.5 hour digital photography course run by professional Wayne Cosshall.
HP says during the sessions it will open eyes to the new solutions and possibilities in creative digital printing. Industry experts will be on hand to answer and printing related question, and attendees will naturally have the opportunity to view all HP's latest digital printing solutions.
HP is offering an Italian made Aprila Mojito 125cc scooter as the main prize, with other spot prizes offered on the day.
Sessions times are
1. Breakfast 7.45am to 9.15am
2. Morning Tea 9.30am to 11.00am
3. Brunch 11.15am to 12.45am
4. Lunch 1pm to 2.30pm
5. Afternoon Tea 3pm to 4.30pm
Preregistration is essential. The Tuesday Melbourne Carnival takes place at the HP Imaging & Printing Experience Ground Floor West, 505 Little Collins St while the Friday Sydney Carnival is being at the Hilton Sydney, 488 George St.
The photography course is run twice during the day. 9.15am to 12.45pm and 1.15pm to 4.45pm
Titled Pushing Digital Further – Digital Infrared and Long Exposure Photography the 3.5 hours the talk is aimed at helping you to push the boundaries of your own photography through exploiting some of the potential digital offers. In the process HP says it will also work on your thought processes.
The workshop introduces you to the possibilities of your existing digital camera equipment when used in new ways. It does this by exploring a couple of techniques that beautifully exploit the potential of digital: digital infrared and very long exposure photography.
This workshop introduces you to shooting infrared images using digital cameras. Infrared photography is a beautiful, yet different way of seeing the world using a part of the light spectrum that our eyes are not sensitive to, but digital cameras are. It results in a stunningly different look to landscape and people photography. Topics covered include:
- What is infrared and why is it interesting
- How digital cameras work with infrared
- Converted vs normal digital cameras for infrared
- Filters
- Subject matter and how it responds
- Shooting practices
- Photoshop handling of infrared images
- BW infrared vs. colour
- Printing and presentation
We will also cover long exposure photography and how digital cameras are such a natural fit for this approach. Topics covered include:
- What do we mean by long exposure
- What do you need to do it
- How to think about it
- Using the camera LCD for more
- Aesthetic issues
- Subject matter
