HP to showcase Fogra-certified Indigo presses at Print 09

The HP Indigo 5500 and 7000 machines are the latest digital presses to have been certified and HP will unveil the certification and an implementation program to help customers set up their systems at the Chicago show next week.

HP Indigo strategic marketing product manager Lior Lewinz said: “We have been getting requests from printers for certification because their customers are asking for colour standards.”

The move to offer Fogra certification and implementation follows the roll out of a similar scheme for the US market offering Gracol certification in February this year.

Fogra certification is especially important to companies in the Asia-Pacific, and in particular Australia, Lewinz said.

Under the FograCert Validation Print scheme a printing system (printer, workflow and substrate) has to be able to produce a result within the tolerances set out in draft of ISO 12647-7, with modified criteria set out for toner-based systems.

The HP presses are certified using CGS Oris PressMatcher Pro 5 software and three substrates. The firm is also in the process of seeking certification for a system using GMG software.
