International Print Day in full swing

International Print Day (IPD) has kicked off across the interwebs of the globe, launching the world’s largest conversation about print in all forms.

The event is hosted online and encourages printers, suppliers, students and artists to share their work, their favourite print or simply connect with others using the hashtag #IPD16.

International Print Day is now in its third year and organisers are confident it will gain more traction in Australia this time around.

“We have definitely picked up more interest this year, we are gaining popularity and more people are jumping on board,” says Australian IPD patron Stephanie Gaddin.

Gaddin says organisers are hoping to achieve 26 million impressions on Twitter globally, “We have already seen people putting things on Facebook and Twitter from the Aussie print community, so I am hoping we will create a big splash this year in Australia.”

The theme this year is #PrintSmart, which principal at Print Media Centr Deborah Corn describes as a reflection of the industry’s desire to solve problems using print.

“We are expecting to see printers but also designers, marketers and entrepreneurs connecting throughout the day sharing samples and stories of great print – plus ideas, suggestions and opportunities to collaborate,” she says.

Corn also sees IPD as an opportunity for independent print shops to connect with their local community.

“There are no limits to what can happen on International Print Day,” she says. “If you have been thinking of inviting customers or local students in to see your shop, why not do it? It is the perfect excuse to blend fun with being informative and there are no boundaries as to what you can do.”

Since IPD got underway at 9am this morning, several Australian companies have already tweeted their support for the initiative including Fuji Xerox Australia, KW Doggett, Whirlwind Print and Media Super.
