IPMG employee named NSW Graduate of the Year

General manager Stephen Cuthbert said Moss had impressed supervisors with his intelligence and enthusiasm during his apprenticeship at Sinnott Brothers.

"He's dedicated to his role. On top of his work ethic and meticulous way of doing things, he's gone over and above… in his own time he's done further courses to advance his career and accelerate his progression," Cuthbert told ProPrint.

Moss told the audience when accepting his award: "From day one I wanted to strive to be the best."

The other state finalists were Shanmugan Vadiveloo from Opus Group's book printer, Ligare, Nicole Clark from News Limited, Romeo Abellana from Anzpac Services, Lauren Peatman from Intergrated Marketing Solutions and Patricia Teo from Jet Swimwear.

Guest speaker Wayne Pearce told the graduates they had to compete and embrace change if they wanted to succeed.

The former rugby league great said the next 100 years were likely to feature as much change as the previous 20,000, so printers would get left behind if they weren't willing to learn.

Pearce said self-belief and personal responsibility were the two key traits that separated successful people from the "sheep".

He urged the audience to put aside the "mind viruses" of self-doubt and negativity and work hard to overcome obstacles in their way.

He also stressed the importance of long-term goals. He said his dream of becoming a professional footballer had helped him overcome the death of his father and then contracting Hepatitis B from an on-field medical procedure.

"One of the big challenges for all of us – it's really important to focus on what you want not in the next six months but the next five to 10 years."

The gala dinner was organised by the New South Wales branch of the Lithographic Institute of Australia and held on 4 June at the North Ryde RSL.
