Kayell moves to expand business

Wide format reseller Kayell Australia will move to a new building nearly double its current size, as the company consolidates to grows despite global industry contraction. The new headquarters, 300m from its current location, is a 1000sqm building with a board room, studio workshop space, and demo area as well as onsite parking on Whiting Street Artarmon, Sydney.

Speaking with Australian Printer, director of Kayell Australia, Andreas Johansson, says the company has been increasing its size over the last three years due to growth. Johansson says, “We started with one unit and every 12 to 18 months we increased with another unit, and now the landlord asked me if I wanted to take over a bigger building, which is 450sqm bigger than our current place, and I said yes. “The new place suits us because we can do live demonstrations of our wide format printers, especially since the print section of the business has been on the rise, even though globally it is going down.” He says previously a printer only invested in an inkjet press, which did not need too much space, but now there are other machines that come with printers, which need more room to install. “In the last eight years that we have been in the print and graphic arts industry, we did not need to supply several pieces of equipment for printers to get the job done. “Now we are taking on more and more equipment because some of the machines have gone from inkjet to solvent, so the extra space is needed to accommodate the add-on machines. Johansson says while bigger buildings mean higher rent, he is not worried as the business can cope with it. “While the rent will go up, it is only going up by 20 per cent, so we can afford to move, plus I won’t have to go outside to do anything as the building has everything indoor,” he says. The showroom on Hotham Parade will be closed on May 1 and the new HQ will open on May 4.
