Local colour standards prevail

38 per cent of those replying indicated they used 3DAP publication guidelines for colour match, while an additional 22 per cent used their own internal requirements. 19 per cent indicated they used SWOP TR001 colour standards (predominantly used in the USA). Ten per cent noted GRACoL DTR004 standards were being used (another USA standard). 12 per cent of respondents reported they used European ISO eg. FOGRA colour match standards for print production.

Garry Knespal, GASAA executive secretary, says, “The 3DAP guidelines, established to assist major publishers handle the multitude of digital ads received each day, seems to be the default setting of many in the Australia industry. We believe many of those stating they use internal colour settings are using a modification of the 3DAP specs.

“While a significant number have moved to international colour standards, no one standards is dominant. It seems there is room for the Australian industry to debate the most suitable standard for the country and region.”
