Magnets provide pulling power for printers

Printed magnets producer Ad-Mag says its trade service to printers is growing strongly, thanks to the appeal of their promotional power. Garry Patterson, managing director of Ad-Mag, says the power of a magnet for marketing should not be underestimated. He tells AP, “There aren’t a lot of marketing tools that can work for you as long as promotional refrigerator magnets. Once they make it to the refrigerator, they tend to stay there for years. “Magnets are a universal promotional product, offering a tried and tested method of marketing even today in the digital age. They have a low cost per unit and deliver high returns.”

Staying focused on its niche and doing it well is the philosophy behind Sydney-based national magnets supplier – though the company’s magnets come in many guises from business card magnets and car signs to jigsaw puzzles. Patterson says focusing on magnets has kept the business strong over its 35 years of operations and allowed it to open its doors to trade customers. He says, “The trade can place orders without concern as our business is not in competition with general printers. Our client list is growing well, we focus on service and quality.” The company produces printed and diecut fridge magnets, magnetic calendars, vehicle signs and photo frame magnets; offers an attaching service for magnetic tabs for the back of cards and booklets; and supplies many types of magnetic materials. The printed magnets can be produced in 0.4mm, 0.6mm or 0.8mm to suit a customer’s budget and requirements; the company keeps a large inventory of magnetic material to cater to a range of order sizes. At the top shelf level, it offers Magnum Magnetics premium material in a variety of types and specifications, from gloss whites, bright colours and self adhesive to specialty items such as tapes and matched pull. The magnets are produced both on digital and offset machines, as well as screen and foil finishing options. They are generally printed in four-colour, though PMS is also available. From its start-up in the early eighties selling calendars with magnetic tabs to real estate agencies, with a staff of one, Patterson says the business has grown steadily till today it employs between 12 and 15 full time staff at its Wetherill Park site. Ad-Mag also offers an inhouse graphics studio to handle customers’ art, design, pre-press and file requirements; and has honed its turnaround to being able to provide an opt-in 48 hour service if required.
