Printers to save 20% on power bills

PIAA says printers can save thousands of dollars on bills by taking advantage of its Better Business partnership, which may lead to savings of up to 20 per cent off their power bills. The Better Business partnership is a new service, which compares company electricity bills against prices from a wide range of energy retailers, delivering new deals. Joe Kowalewski, Printing Industries’ national director, communication, technology and creative services, says the initial estimates by the association put the savings for an average SME at about $1,051 annually.

Kowalewski says, “However our first test company, Sydney based Bright Print Group, signed on after realising they would save $10,750 over two years by making the switch. “A further five companies have since joined with individual annual savings around the $3000 mark.” The PIAA initiative complements the associations’ existing suite of energy efficiency services that include an end-to-end energy management solution, voltage optimisation, electrical test and tag training and its industry specific Sustainable Green Print certification program. Debbie Burgess, Bright Print director, has been diligent with her costs and has managed to save on water, electricity and waste charges as well as reducing overall electricity usage by 7.5 per cent. She says while her business is considered one of the most energy efficient print companies in NSW, the PIAA’s initiative provided a new opportunity for further savings. Burgess says it was as simple as picking up the phone and making a call to begin the process, which produced a great result. “I called Michael, one of the commercial account managers. He requested a copy of my latest bills and then went to market to compare the retailers’ rates,” she says. “Once he had received all of the offers, he came back with a proposal, easily showing which retailer had the best solution. Michael was pleasant and responsive during the whole experience. “Overall it was a very simple and straight forward process; I would recommend the service to other businesses and especially to other members of the association. I was pleased with the saving,” Burgess says. PIAA says its members are provided with free quotes and no switching fee. More information can be accessed from www.betterbusiness.net.au.
