Melbourne printer installs Australia’s first Screen 1632UV

Melbourne digital sign and display firm Resolution Imaging is the first Australian printer to install a six-colour Screen Truepress Jet 1632UV flatbed UV printer.

Director Darren Watkins, who has previous experience with Screen scanners and film imagesetters, says he was attracted to the 1632UV by its up to 94sqm per hour productivity while retaining detail and colour fidelity for advertising displays, and was impressed with the Incus’ engineering.

Screen southern region sales manager Keith Atherton says Resolution is a perfect site to demonstrate the flatbed printer’s capabilities.

“Resolution Imaging is a very fast-paced sign and display shop offering both flatbed UV and solvent roll output,” he says.

“Productivity is vitally important as they can receive orders for hundreds of advertising displays at short notice and must turn them around quickly.”

Screen Australia managing director Peter Scott says the 1632UV’s fast turnaround will make printers more competitive in a cutthroat market.

“The flatbed UV market in Australia is very competitive, with all manufacturers represented in a country of relatively small population, separated by great distances,” he says.

The new printer began on operation in early February and has been busy printing signs, retail displays, vehicle wraps and murals for Resolution’s Victorian customer base, largely made up of retail clients.

Its press fleet offers both flatbed UV and solvent roll output capabilities and includes a Kongsberg XL 24, and a newly-installed XP 24.

The 12-person company mostly prints on recyclable xboard and reboard as well as corflute (also on foamboards such as Kapa, Gator and Forex), which are then cut and formed into a variety of point of sale and displays.

Resolution offers full service from creative design to printing, die-cutting, laminating and finishing.

Screen collaborated with its UK parent group company Inca in the development of both the Truepress Jet 1632UV and new Truepress Jet W3200UV, which adds the option for white in addition to the six-colour ink set and prints in landscape format.
