Mimaki spends $2m to set up in Sydney

The Japanese wide-format manufacturer began setting up its new base in Rydalmere, Sydney in April and will officially open in August. It expects to employ a workforce of 10 people.

Mimaki Australia managing director Hiroshi Okino said: "We are looking forward to increasing opportunities to communicate directly with customers so that we can reflect Australian customers’ opinions on our future products and services."

The manufacturer has been represented locally by DGS Mimaki for many years, while GBC was appointed as a distributor last year.

Okino told ProPrint that Mimaki Australia would "continue the relationship with our existing resellers".

According to Mimaki's statement: "The new operations are a sign of Mimaki’s commitment to the Australian industry, their customers and their desire to provide the best after-sales service and support."

The showroom will boast a wide range of equipment, including popular devices such as the JV33-160 and UJF-6042.

The UJF-6042, which was launched late last year, is a small-format UV flatbed printer designed for high-quality photo print production onto rigid substrates.

Mimaki will also demonstrate its Latex series as well as a new flatbed machine launched at PacPrint.

The showroom will house a 1.6-metre Latex machine, the JV400-160LX with new LX101 ink, as well as its solvent UV counterpart, the JV400-160SUV.

The new LX101 ink expands the colour gamut with the addition of orange and green inks, while white ink is also available.

The flatbed JFX500-2131 is a 2.1×3.1-metre LED UV-cured printer, which was first shown at Visual Impact Image Expo, co-located with PacPrint.

The device can reach 60sqm per hour printing four colours at 300x450dpi in high-speed mode, or 24sqm per hour at 600x900dpi in high-quality mode.

The JFX500 also boasts a white ink option.
