Nationwide health and safety seminars

At the time of publication, seminars had already been held at Christchurch, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Nelson, Wellington and Palmerston North, with further events planned for Invercargill, Dunedin and Whangarei.

PrintNZ says the seminars, which cost $NZ40 for members and $NZ75 for non-members (both including GST), provide “an opportunity for all owners, managers, supervisors and health and safety reps to be reminded of their obligations under the Health and Safety in Employment Act and re-visit the processes you have in place”.

The seminars include an update on Health and Safety in Employment matters and provide advice on:

• what an inspector will look at
• how best to prepare for an inspection
• ACC statistics
• most common forms of accidents in the printing industry
• what to do if there is an accident
• what is a near miss and what to do if one is experienced
Additionally, the seminars provide an update on Employment Law, including developments affecting:
• flexible working hours
• meal breaks and infant feeding
• minimum wage and remuneration for contractors
• redundancy entitlements
• casual workers
