Newspaper association appoints new CEO

Newspaper association NewsMediaWorks has appointed experienced media executive Peter Miller as its new CEO.

NewsMediaWorks says that Millar will lead the organisation to support Australia’s leading news media publishers, manage industry co-operation and communicate the sector’s value proposition to advertisers.

He replaces Mark Hollands who left earlier this year after a four year stint at the association.

His role will include involvement in readership metric Emma (enhanced media metrics Australia), the News Media Index that reports whole of industry ad revenue and the industry’s annual conference, to be held this year in September.

With marketing giant Salmat predicting an increase in marketers looking to mailing to sell products, this September’s Emma may provide a boost to print and mailing morale.

Millar has more than 25 years’ experience in the media sector, and was previously executive director, Global Market Strategy at advertising technology company Adstream.

Miller says, “After a long and satisfying career with Adstream, I am excited to return to my first love of publishing. Our news media publishers have some of Australia’s most trusted and respected brands that attract large and engaged audiences and present a compelling proposition for advertisers. I look forward to working with the NewsMediaWorks team to promote the industry and its many initiatives.”

NewsMediaworks notes his extensive experience across news media and magazine publishers. He was Group Sales & Marketing director at Fairfax Media, and at News Corp was Marketing & Circulation director at Mirror Australian Telegraph Publications and Advertising Sales Director for The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. In the magazine sector he was National Advertising Sales Director with ACP Magazines (now Bauer Media) and Advertising Sales Director at Pacific Magazines. Peter joined Adstream as Australia Managing Director in 2004 to establish and grow the company in this market.

“His strong connections to, and deep understanding of, the publishing industry and all the key industry stakeholders, as well as his experience in technology and digital solutions for advertisers and agencies, made him the stand-out candidate as CEO for NewsMediaWorks,” says company chairman Michael Miller.

“In his new role he will steer the industry body to focus on helping create operational efficiencies for the benefit of all publisher members as well as communicating the strong value proposition of news media to advertisers and media agencies. We are delighted to welcome him on board.”
